Inside Monica Ainley’s Parisian apartment | Une Fille, Un Style | Vogue Paris

My name is Monica Ainley de La Villardière. I am a Canadian in Paris, wandering the streets looking for inspiration like Hemingway and Fitzgerald before me. No, I am a fashion journalist and influencer. For a living, I founded with my dear friend Camille Charrière
the podcast “Fashion No Filter” three years ago. My style is very influenced by menswear. I wear a lot of tailoring,
I wear a lot of jeans, I love relaxed, loose shirting,
like you’ve borrowed it from a boy. I actually do borrow lots of my husband’s clothes. But I do occasionally dress more feminine, especially in the summer,
I like to explore colors and I like dresses. But my daily uniform is definitely tailoring,
relaxed boy-cut jeans and oversized shirting. I’m Canadian, but my apartment
could not be more French. We are on the Left Bank in Saint-Germain, which is obviously
a very typical Parisian neighborhood. The walls are all white,
a lot of simplicity, wood floor and then I add a bit of color
with interesting pieces of artwork. I love sort of modern and slightly abstract art. I love those statues. They bring some modernity into what is effectively
your classic old-school French look. And I guess that you could say that
about everything to do with my aesthetics. My late grandmother
was an incredibly stylish woman. We would be sent to her house in the country
every summer by the lake and she would just be wearing a man’s shirt
and high-waisted trousers. She embraced her wrinkles,
they were part of her face. She wore beautiful, simple jewelry
and everything she did was incredibly elegant. I understood that a man’s shirt, for example,
could be just as chic as a ball gown, and that’s when I understood what style was.
